How to Look Great in Short Hairstyles for Men

Looking great in short hairstyles for men require considering important factors, which are often overlooked. Before you schedule a visit to your stylist and subject your hair's fate to his hands or scissors or both, make sure you give serious thought to these first:

Get the right hair products.

Not every hair product you see on the shelves of your local drug or cosmetics store can be good for your hair. Why? Hair types vary accordingly, and by this it only follows that hair products would likewise vary to accommodate the needs of each one. Before you stock up your bathroom cabinet with hair products, know your particular hair type first. At best consult with your hairstylist. If you have a scalp or hair condition requiring special attention, refer to your hair specialist or dermatologist. Beyond hair types, medically related hair or scalp conditions require specialized products. If not considered, it may worsen given its reaction to the inappropriate hair product used.

Another point for consideration, which you can ask your stylist about, is the specific products needed to achieve a particular style or look. Nowadays, there a gazillion hair products to choose from. Some of them are especially created for a kind of style. But with so many brand choices, it is so easy to get lost. Once this happens, chances are, you may end up taking home the wrong hair products, thus throwing away your good money in the process.

Take a very good look at your situation.

Your situation would directly answer the biggest and most important question for choosing and getting a hairstyle: “Why do you need to have it in the first place?” Your answer would determine if the style you want is appropriate or not. For example, if you are going to a prom, a mohawk or any other attention-grabbing hairstyle would look out of place. If you are going to have dinner with your girlfriend's parents, a very stiff or spiky do might not earn you their good graces. Having a hard time deciding? Confer with your hairstylist.

Know your hair's styling limitations.

As much as you would want to have absolute freedom in styling your hair, truth be known that there would always be limitations—and this always applies whether you like it or not. Take having short hair as an example. With just an inch or two of hair length, not much radical styling can be done. You may spike it or slick it back with the aid of the right hair products, though. But a mohawk? You may want to grow your hair out a little more to be able to achieve this style.
